My Experience Using Duolingo and YouGlish

Hello guys, in this post I will give my point of view and my experience using Duolingo adn Youglish.

About These Sites

Duolingo

Duolingo is a language learning website that has a simple and attractive appearance. Site navigation is easy to understand for beginners. The features provided are also very complete. There are many target languages that can be used for learning.

In the learning process, Duolingo has a student ability level. The first time students use this site, they will be given a kind of placement test to determine the level of proficiency of the student in the target language.

YouGlish

YouGlish is a site that features reading text into pronunciation. Unlike similar sites in general that use robots as readers, this site directly sources videos on Youtube. So, the sound produced comes from the original person who spoke the word.

How to use this program is quite easy. Users only need to enter the word that they want to hear how it is pronounced, then they will find a video sourced from someone's Youtube saying the word.

My Experience

Duolingo

I use Duolingo and manually enter the level at the lowest level. The site immediately gave me a very simple lesson, (basic 1). There are 10 questions that were given to me to solve. The tense used is the simple present tense because this is the most basic in learning English.

Youglish

My experience using YouGlish is quite unique. I just realized that my English pronunciation is quite weak. For example the word focus. I say it a lot but it turns out to be a mispronunciation.

Conclusion

Duolingo and YouGlish are great sites used to improve understanding of our language. The difference between the two programs are in their function. Duolingo focus on understanding words, phrases, grammar, etc. Meanwhile, Youglish focus more on pronouncing words in the correct target language.
